About Us — Private Personal Training in Hastings & St Leonards-on-Sea
At Unity Strength & Wellness in Hastings & St Leonards, we specialise in personal training for adults aged 30+.
In our private studio, you’ll receive expert coaching in strength, mobility, and injury rehabilitation — all designed to help you build confidence and train safely.

Unity was founded by Calum and brought to Hastings to create an alternative to the typical gym model — where you pay a monthly direct debit, rarely show up, and never see real progress. At Unity, accountability is built into the process: when you commit, you turn up, and every session moves you forward.
You’re not paying for access to equipment — you’re investing in coaching, support, and measurable results.

Unlike crowded commercial gyms, Unity is a calm, supportive environment where every member feels seen, encouraged, and guided at their own pace.

Whether you’re returning to exercise, managing back or joint pain, or working towards long-term health, our tailored programmes make training simple, effective, and genuinely personal.

Calum — Founder & Personal Trainer
After losing his dad at a young age, Calum grew up searching for safety and belonging. Weight training became a way to build strength, confidence, and a sense of control — shaping the vision behind Unity Strength & Wellness: a private training space built on support, resilience, and long-term health, where people feel truly seen.

Calum qualified as a personal trainer at 18, later expanding his skill set to include counselling-based support, injury prevention, and sports massage. Alongside coaching, he also works as an Assistant Director for stunt and action stage shows, including performances at the International Security Expo — experiences that deepened his understanding of movement, resilience, and the connection between body and mind.

He has since worked with adults across a wide age range — from professionals in their 30s to older adults in their 60s, 70s, and even 90s — supporting people managing ADHD, chronic fatigue, injuries, back pain, and joint issues. By blending counselling-informed approaches with strength coaching, Calum designs programmes that adapt to each client’s energy, focus, and recovery.

His calm, encouraging style makes Unity a trusted alternative to commercial gyms: a private space where clients can rebuild strength, recover from setbacks, and train with confidence. His philosophy goes beyond appearance — preparing people not just to look stronger, but to move better, live healthier, and build resilience for life.

Mack - Personal Trainer
Mack’s journey into fitness began from a very different place. At 17, standing 6ft 3 and weighing just 57kg, he felt underweight, insecure, and unsure how to change. Weight training became the turning point — providing structure, confidence, and a clear path forward.

Over time, he built himself up to 80kg, transforming not only his body, but his mindset.
That experience inspired Mack to become a coach, driven by the belief that if he could do it, others could too. He went on to gain experience in sports centre management, swim teaching, and lifeguarding — roles that strengthened his ability to support people of all ages and abilities in a safe, encouraging way.

Today, as part of Unity Strength & Wellness, Mack works with clients across Hastings, St Leonards, and Bexhill, delivering training that is tailored, patient, and effective. He has particular expertise in supporting older adults and those managing back or joint pain, has helped clients prepare physically and mentally for knee surgery, and has experience working with deaf clients — adapting communication and coaching methods to ensure every individual feels supported, understood, and confident in their training.

Mack’s coaching style is supportive, down-to-earth, and practical. His goal is simple: to help people discover what they’re capable of — showing that fitness can be sustainable, enjoyable, and empowering.
